George RR Martin, Renowned Fantasy Author, At Age 73. Because of Reddit's API changes in July 2023 and subsequent treatment of their moderator community, I have IMO George RR Martin is about as overrated as JK Rowling. The writing isn't that good. Compared to most good modern authors the writing, pacing, and character building is god awful. I honestly never stood the appeal. I read the first 2 books, and they read like they were written by an edgy teen. Bit of an odd question, but I've been hoping to put together a somewhat uniform collection of Martin's pre-ASOIAF books and so far I've found Tuf Voyaging and Windhaven, and just purchased copies of The Armageddon Rag and Dreamsongs Vol 1 all in the livery that basically seems to be in the same style as the Ice and Fire series. To me, it seems that Martin has simply lost interest in competing the series. I think there is a possibility that he doesn't intend to finish the last two books, but will not say so for two reasons: 1) his publisher would throw a fit, and possibly take legal action if they paid him anything in advance, and 2) the fandom would chase him down If Martin dies before finishing his book series, then his book series will remain unfinished. Duh. As for the TV show "Game of Thrones", it has already pretty much caught up with the latest book, and they are veering and will continue to veer away from Martin’s books anyway. If your main interest is the TV show, then it’s not going to "come Eh. I suppose so. I've known of Martin longer than I've known of R.R. Martin, so I always think of the former first. Martin wrote all the lore and built the world pre-shattering, then From took that and “shattered” it, twisting it and making it appropriately From-y. Part of that was making everything darker and more distorted, but I imagine part of it was also introducing gaps in the knowledge presented to the player.
